Abstract
An account of a method to adjust the observed counting rate to that which would be observed in a soil of constant dry bulk density is given. The purpose was to improve the accuracy of calibrating the neutron moisture meter. In an example quoted, the slope of the calibration curve was changed by 5.7% and its standard deviation was diminished from 4.7% to 4.0%, by calculating and making allowance for the absorption of slow neutrons by the soil solids.
