Abstract
Selected additives applied to cotton at levels below 0.4% prior to carding can reduce dust levels in carding by 40% to 70%. The general effects on processing and yarn quality are minimal. Card room dust level of a 50 50 cotton polyester opening-room blend was reduced 73% by a low level of additive. Dust levels in the range 300 to 600μg m2 were reduced to the standard level by use of additives. This may be the most cost-effective method for controlling dust in this critical range. For six mills, dust levels were reduced an average of 49% after introduction of an additive. Keywords
