Abstract
An investigation was carried out into the characteristics of 87 samples graded by New Zealand woolclassers as 48s count Romney Crossbred wool. Mean values for the main characteristics measured were: grease 5.1 %, suint 7.6 %, yield at 16 % regain 79.5 %;, fibre diameter 37.5 µ crimps per inch 3.2, staple length 6.9 in., medullated fibres 6.1%. Measurements of fibre length and staple length were also made. The samples were regraded by 10 senior woolclassers and these regradings and a suggested new grading nomenclature system are discussed.
