Abstract
It is suggested that these sacs allow a considerable volume of air to be inhaled and exhaled, thus causing ventilation of the larger tracheal trunks. The parallel development of the air-sac system with the powers of flight seems to support this theory. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
