Abstract
Of 903 surgically treated patients with endometriosis the disease recurred in 132 cases (14.6%) during the follow-up period of 6–10 years. The re-operation was performed within 1 year after the primary operation for 7 patients, within 1–5 years for 91 patients and more than 5 years after the primary surgery for 34 patients. The most common complaints were pain in the lower abdomen and dysmenorrhoea and the most common sites for the recurrence the ovaries and retrocervix. Endometrioma of the rectum was surgically treated in 10 patients and endometrioma of the urinary bladder in 3. Gestagen therapy after the primary surgery had no effect on the recurrence rate. Keywords
