Effect of Benzene Hexachloride and Chlordane on Certain Soil Organisms1

Abstract
Benzene hexachloride at 1 1b. of gamma isomer per acre greatly reduced damping-off in conifer seedlings caused by Rhizoctonia and also caused a decline in the number of mycorrhizal rootlets. Chlordane had no effect at 10 lb. per acre on these organisms. Neither benzene hexachloride nor chlordane at the stated dosages appeared to influence the formation of nodules on roots of black locust.
