Abstract
"An attempt was made to determine whether meaningfulness is a variable contributing to the lower duration thresholds of familiar, frequently used words in addition to the factor of frequency of prior exposure to the stimulus pattern per se." Meaningfulness was established by matching nonsense syllables with common familiar objects. The variable of meaningfulness did not influence visual duration thresholds.
