Abstract
Dr. Slater's article (April 27, 1989, issue)* about rubber anaphylaxis in two children with myelodysplasia (spina bifida) was discussed at the June 1989 meeting of the New England Myelodysplasia Association, a regional network of nurses and other health professionals serving children with this condition and their parents from the New England states. As nurses and parents, we had been aware for some time of the allergies to rubber gloves, catheters, and balloons such children have, but we had not considered the possibility of life-threatening allergic reactions.
