Chaetoceros amanita Cleve-Euler (Bacillariophyceae) from Blue Lake Warm Spring, Utah, USA

Abstract
C. amanita Cleve-Euler was observed in a warm brackish spring in the Great Basin desert of Utah, USA. This is the 1st report of this species in North America and the first complete description of vegetative cells for the taxon. This taxon produces long chains of lightly silicified cells due to the fusion of setae. Similar to several other freshwater species of Chaetoceros, this taxon produces resting spores with domed primary valves and truncated, protruded secondary valves. Both temporal and geographical distribution of this taxon are disjunct.
