Abstract

The neutron and gamma dose rate has been calculated for Cf²⁵² planar and multiplanar cuboid implants for the Paterson-Parker source distribution system and for the Quimby source distribution system. A Modified Distribution System for planar implants is described that produces a dose uniformity of ± 10 per cent in the target area. This system uses the uniform source distribution of the classical Quimby system with the following modifications: the length of the implant is longer than the length of the treatment area; and the sources at the edge of the implant are left in place longer than the inner sources of the implant.
