Combination Therapy in Retinoblastoma

Abstract
Results of combination chemotherapy and radiation therapy of bilateral retinoblastoma in a group of 307 patients treated from 1953 to 1966 are reported. An overall "cure rate" of 55% with useful vision is being achieved as compared to 23% prior to 1953 with radiation only. In the patients with less advanced disease (groups 1, 2, and 3) results of "cure" ranged from 60% to 87%. The development of the present therapeutic regimen and the future trends in the program are outlined.
