Abstract
A correlation function for a positron-electron pair within a metal is obtained by solving a Bethe-Goldstone equation. Thus one may take account of the many body effects, of screening and the exclusion principle, in computing the electron density at the position of the positron. The results indicate that one may, in this fashion, reconcile the Sommerfeld model of a metal with the experimental data on positron annihilation in metals. Keywords
