Propagation of Band Limited Noise

Abstract
Theoretical and experimental work on the propagation of band limited noise in a plane wave tube are here reported. Characteristics of the spatial crosscorrelation curve are controlled by the arithmetic mean frequency of the band and the bandwidth of the noise. The amplitude of the correlation function for zero spatial separation is directly proportional to the total power Akb where A is the density of the cross power spectra and kb is the bandwidth in wave number. Agreement between theory and experiment is quite good for relatively small spatial separations.
