Formation of multiple central bodies in giant cysts of Azotobacter vinelandii

Abstract
"Normal" and "giant" cysts were suspended in chemical salts broth. The multiple units formed within the "giant" cysts are viable cells and more viable cells were released from them then from "normal" cysts. This encystmentger-mination cycle may be useful in the study of cellular regulatory mechanisms and the influence of the growth media and other environmental conditions on them.
