Abstract
The angular distribution data of Niehaus and Ruf (1971) is re-analysed. It is shown that they are in fact consistent with the theory of Dill (1972). In particular, it is found that the experimental value of the asymmetry parameter for the S branch, beta S=0.45+or-0.87, consistent with both the theoretical value of 0.2 and the old experimental value of 0.85. The advantages of repeating the experiment with parahydrogen are pointed out, and explicit predictions are made on the results of such a measurement. Keywords
