An individual of Hydra viridissima readily accepts into its enteron the point of a dissecting needle drawn several times through a piece of beef, closing so tightly upon it that it can be readily lifted and transported. When presented at the mouth of another hydra, the second opens and the first is thrust within its enteron. Observations covering about two hours from ingestion to final liberation of the captive are given. Further experiment shows the method to be practical for the laboratory, and additional lines of experiment are suggested.
