Abstract
In the general theme of desertification, attention is called to the excessive cutting of trees for firewood and charcoal as one important factor in the process of land degradation in semi-arid areas, where local deserts are created if people's out-take of trees exceeds regeneration. To stop degradation of land it is of utmost importance that the poor are helped in solving the looming energy crisis now so bitterly experienced. Keywords
