Acute Theophylline Overdose: An Approach to Management

Abstract
Management of acute or chronic theophylline poisoning requires clear knowledge of the drug's toxicity in different age groups, risk factors for heightened toxicity, pharmacologic parameters affecting absorption and elimination of the drug from the body, and current evidence of effectiveness of various modalities for managing the drug in overdose. Current evidence impacting each variable is presented and a rational approach to management based on present available evidence is discussed.
