The oxidation velocities of some alkenes with peracetic acid

Abstract
The reactions of a number of alkenes and cyclenes with peracetic acid has been investigated in acetic acid solution, usually at various temperatures, in order to collect data on the E and B values of the Arrhenius equation:\documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ \log \;k = \sim \frac{E} {{2.303\;RT}} + B. $$\end{document} It appeared that the reaction constant increases considerably as the hydrogen atoms on the unsaturated carbon atoms are replaced by alkyl groups, and this was chiefly to be ascribed to the fall in the E values. The B values also fall in the case of the cyclic compounds, in which one would expect some tension on steric considerations.
