Abstract
The fluorine hyperfine structure in the paramagnetic resonance spectrum of the fluoro‐ferrate ion, FeF6———, has been observed in a solid solution of the ion in K2NaGaF6. From the isotropic and anisotropic components of the spectrum the magnitudes of the coefficients of the fluorine atomic obitals in the molecular orbitals occupied by the unpaired electrons are estimated. The results are compared with results on Mn++ dissolved in other fluorides. The antibonding eg orbitals are found to contain about 2.5% fluorine 2s orbital and approximately 10% fluorine 2p orbital. Keywords
