Abstract
The gas-phase photolysis of nitrosyl cyanide (1-aza-2-nitrosoethyne) has been studied using 589 nm radiation. The gaseous products are nitrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide and the solid products include cyanogen isocyanate. A mechanism is proposed to account for the reaction products. The experimental hazards associated with nitrosyl cyanide purification and reactions are emphasised. Keywords
