Abstract
The builders of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey have committed their time and deferred their careers for as much as a decade to work on a project for which they reap little credit. Individual names can get lost among the 100 or so co-authors of papers based on Sloan data. Their reward is the chance to work on the most ambitious astronomical project in history, one that is reshaping the field.
