Abstract
A case of extremely severe birth asphyxia is reported. Despite successful resuscitation, the arterial pH was still only 6.6 at the age of 1 h. Assessment at 3 yr, 10 mo. revealed that the child was not only completely normal but was of superior intelligence. This case demonstrates the advisability of maintaining an optimistic approach even when very severe fetal acidosis is detected around the time of birth. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
