Learning Environment in Information Technology The Views of Student Nurses

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out what student nurses think about the learning environment in which they are taught information technology. The hardware available as well as the atmosphere in computer classes are major determining factors of learning environment. The continuous development of learning equipment makes it difficult to assess the quality of learning and teaching. In this article the authors report on Finnish student nurses' perceptions of the learning environment and their views on computerization in health care. A total of 373 nursing students took part in the study. The findings clearly demonstrated the dissatisfaction of students with the current learning environment. They want to see more depth and breadth given to the teaching of information technology in the nursing curriculum. Views on computer use in health care were very positive among the students.
