A transmission line transformer (TLT) with 50Ω characteristic impedance on one side and ̃5Ω on the other side is described. It is small and rugged, and has a large bandwidth and low reflection coefficient. One of its applications is demonstrated, to improve the temporal response of a commercial high-speed photodiode as compared with a conventional 50Ω coupling scheme.
