Observations on Oral Tumors in Vitro. 2 Karyobiosis in Strain KB Cells

Abstract
Strain KB cells are cultivated in special chambers and their nuclei are evaluated with respect to: l)size, 2) shape, 3) membrane folds or wrinkles, 4) budding, 5) nuclear inclusions of cytoplasm, 6) nucleolar migrations, 7) nucleolar plasticity versus rigidity, 8) nucleolar secretion, 9) nuclear rotation, and 10) multinucleated giant cell formation by mitosis. Phase-contrast microscopy and time-lapse cinemicrography were used to document the observations. Three types of nuclear rotation are described. The multinucleated giant cell development followed a bizarre mitotic pattern in which the metaphase chromosomes formed a perfect hexagon.
