Abstract
A fundamental assumption underlying the performance appraisal process (that raters can make accurate ratings based on a limited number of observations from previous time periods) was tested in a laboratory experiment. The results suggest that ratings are less accurate when the rating is delayed and when a small amount of information is observed. Keywords
