Abstract
A model for a two‐stage discharge in which H− ions are produced is presented. The model calculates the dependence of H− density on arc conditions. The electron distribution is taken to be a sum of two components: A primary component sufficiently energetic to ionize and excite, and a thermal component. The model explains qualitatively saturation of the density of H− ions. (AIP)Keywords
