Abstract
A method for increasing the size of a percutaneous needle biopsy specimen of skeletal muscle is described. Suction (700 torr) is applied to the inner bore of the biopsy needle after the needle has been inserted into the patients muscle. The suction pulls the surrounding muscle tissue into the needle, thus insuring the taking of a larger piece (.hivin.X = 78.5 mg). In most cases this technique will eliminate the need for repeated biopsies because of inadequate muscle sample size and enhance the validity of subsequent analysis procedures. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
