Abstract
The problem considered is estimation of the mean value of a character for a finite population, making use of information on an auxiliary character. A comparison is made between the pps estimate and the simple average, ratio and regression and stratified sample estimates. The results are obtained under the assumption that the finite population is a random sample from an infinite population possessing certain properties. Keywords
