Abstract
A correlation exercise has been carried out which demonstrates that analysis for respirable quartz in samples free of minerals which interfere with the infra-red spectrum can be performed satisfactorily by field laboratories using relatively inexpensive infra-red spectrophotometers. Samples collected on membrane filters using cyclone samplers were analysed by infra-red spectrophotometry first by the Health and Safety Executive's field laboratories and then by the headquarters laboratory. Agreement between the results was good in most cases. Keywords
