Abstract
The description and schematic representation of the evolution of two rift valleys in the region between the Taburno mountain, west of Benevento, and Gargano to the east, based on surface studies and the results of deep drilling in Foggia, is aimed at the resolution of problems relating to the structural interpretation of relationships between Miocene and Pliocene sediments of southern Italy. The great variation in thickness and facies of sedimentary beds of equivalent age is noted, and the evidence of reworked sediments within the basin is considered.
