Transverse myelitis due to ova of Schistosoma mansoni

Abstract
Evidence is presented indicating the presence of Schistosoma mansoni ova in the spinal cord serves as a causative agent in a case of transverse myelitis. Autopsy material and clinical experience indicate that such conditions may be more common than suspected among natives of the Sudan area, and that the all-too-common cases of paraplegia found in the region should be carefully examined, not only for syphilis, but also for possible schistosome infection and so treated.
