Abstract
Divergent views prevail about the justification of using antibiotics in the treatment of acute and subacute maxillary sinusitis (e. g. van Alyea 1962 and Bryan 1957). An increasing number of investigators are of the opinion that antibiotic treatment should be limited to only selected severe cases, but it is often difficult to make the decision in practice.
