Abstract
Inoculated and nodulated alfalfa (Medicago sativa) plants required Co for N fixation. Addition of 0.1 [mu]moles CoSO4/l of purified nutrient solution resulted in 4-fold increase in foliar yield and 10-fold increase in N content of tops. Isotopic N studies with root and nodule sections grown with and without added Co revealed large differences in N fixing capacities. Addition of as little as 2 x 10-8 [image] Co in the isotopic N studies initiated N fixing ability in deficient nodules. Detailed procedures are given for purification of low Co nutrient salts. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
