Photooxidation of Azomethane

Abstract
The photooxidation of azomethane has been studied at 25 °C and O2 pressures up to 100 Torr in order to ascertain quantitatively the fate of CH3O2 and CH3O radicals by measuring the quantum yields of CH3OOH and CH3OOCH3 production. The generally accepted reactions include[Formula: see text]The appropriate rate constant ratios were found to be: k5/k31/2k41/2 = 0.31, k4a/k4b = 8.9, and k6/k41/2 = 0.021 M−1/2 s−1/2. The estimated accuracy of these values is ± 30%.
