Planning Construction of Repetitive Building Units

Abstract
The construction of repetitive building units may be described as the continuous manufacture of many units which each require considerable time for completion. A line of balance (LOB) can be produced to show the required status of every activity for every unit for any time from start to finish of a project. This technique describes the application to construction of LOB in its present form, which fits a desired unit completion schedule. Another form is then proposed to describe the required activity status to meet a desired project completion date where the activities have different maximum rates of production. The LOB complements bar charts and CPM and the differing data which each requires and furnishes is described. An example is given for each of the two forms of LOB to illustrate the calculation methods and demonstrate their use.
