Abstract
The following biological control agents and toxicant producing plants have been imported into Indonesia as part of the ICA program: Melcha ornatipennis from India for control of Scirpophaga rice and cane borers; Schizonotus latus from United States for control of Phaedonia inclusa soybean beetle; Lamprophorus tenebrosus from Ceylon for Achatina fulica, African snail; Orius insidiosus from the United States as a general predator, especially of earworm eggs, aphids and thrips on corn; Apantales chilonis, Chelonus munakatae, Microgaster russata, Cremastus chinensis, Casinaria sp. from Japan for control of rice borers. Only S. latus, O. insidiosus, A. chilonis, and C. munakatae were released in the field. No evidence of establishment has been noted. Further efforts to establish M. ornatipennis and S. latus are recommended. Because of its susceptibility to predation by village chickens, L. tenebrosus is not considered to have good prospect of being of material value in controlling A. fulica Perezia pyraustae has been imported and applied in the field to rice and cane borer eggs and larvae; Bacillus thuringiensis has been used on field populations of Plutella maculipennis; from Ceylon a polyhedrosis virus of Prodenia sp. has been recently received. Sabadilla, Schoenocaulon officinale and red squill, Urginea maritima were imported and are now multiplying in various field areas. Teleonemia scrupulosa was transferred from Java to Timor for the control of lantanna and is now established there. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
