Abstract
The deepest deposits so far found at Kebara have been exposed only in a relatively limited area and their significance is still not well established. They have yielded no archaeological material. The largest part of the Mousterian sequence is formed by fire places separated by scatters of ash. The perfect preservation of theses structures indicates calm conditions of sedimentation under a relatively stable climate. The only disturbances identifiable have a secondary origin : mixing by burrowing animals, chemical modifications and karstic collapse. The numerous channels that interrupt the end of the Mousterian sequence attest of humid conditions. This period of erosion was followed by a period of sedimentation, linked to the action of water, which was also responsible for the deposition of the fine bedded layers of the Upper Paleolithic deposits. Keywords
