Strength of Anisotropically Consolidated Compacted Clay

Abstract
The present trend towards construction of earth dams and embankments of ever increasing height requires continual investigation of the strength and deformation properties of soil under stress conditions likely to be encountered in these large structures. Although many modern large earth dams are often, constructed primarily of gravel or rock fill, there is almost always some important zones constructed of compacted clay.
