MYOSITIS OSSIFICANS PROGRESSIVA WITH PARATHYROID HYPERPLASIA AND POLYCYSTIC OVARY

Abstract
A report was made on an autopsy case of myositis ossificans progressiva in a girl who died at the age of 8 yr and 11 mo. The 1st symptom appeared as right wryneck 10 days after birth. Parathyroid hyperplasia and polycystic ovary with a high level of serum parathyroid hormone, FSH [follicle stimulating hormone] and LH [luteinizing hormone] were confirmed at autopsy. Parathyroid hyperactivity might be a secondary response to the continuous stimulation by increased peripheral consumption of Ca2+ due to relentlessly progressive ossification in fibrous connective tissue.
