Abstract
Customary dietary patterns were recorded for 8 races (6 native northern; 2 southern immigrant) in northern Nigeria. Seasonal vitamin A and vitamin C deficiencies were apparent. NaCl and I were often in short supply. Degree of dental caries varied inversely with degree of dental fluorosis. Nutritional advantages were evident in girls attending schools where they obtained some food under supervision. Tables are presented indicating dietary patterns for various tribal groups and incidence of clinical symptoms of nutritional deficiency. Keywords
