Leukopenia, Bone Pain, and Bone Necrosis in Patients with Acute Leukemia

Abstract
Several recent studies have demonstrated the occurrence of bone necrosis in acute leukemia (1-4). Kundel, Brecher, Bodey, and Brittin (1) recently have studied a group of patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia and increased bone marrow reticulin, in which six patients were also found to have bone and marrow necrosis. Their results suggested that the clinical course of this group was characterized by bone pain, long periods of leukopenia, and poor response to therapy.
