Abstract
A 3-beam overwritable magneto-optic (MO) disk drive with instantaneous read-verification is developed for random-access image databases and for high-speed file backup. This drive has two optical heads and three optical beams enabling it to be used with an ISO standard 130-mm diameter MO disk. Write-once optics are used in erasing and writing optical systems, and high-efficiency transmission of laser power yields a data transfer rate of 2.1 MB/s at 5400 rpm. Keywords
