Abstract
This study was carried out in order to determine some of the physiological effects of shading Jersey cows during the New Zealand summer. There was a positive effect of shade in reducing skin temperature and a possible effect on rectal temperature and respiration rate but it is doubtful if this cooling effect is sufficient to justify the use of shade for this purpose under the conditions pertaining to the study. Keywords
