Abstract
In this paper, corrections to the Chester, Chisnell, and Whitham characteristic exponent have been computed for the motion of a strong shock wave in a medium with exponentially varying density and ray‐tube area. The similarity solution of Hayes is used to find the various interaction terms at different points of the flow.Keywords
