Abstract
This paper examines the interdependence of the Canadian and American herring fisheries in the Bay of Fundy over the period 1965–85. The unique aspect of this fishery is that vessels of both countries land fresh herring in either country. For most years the processing sector of Maine has relied heavily on the Canadian primary sector to supply fresh herring. The benefits to both countries demonstrated in this paper provide an example of the possible gains from free trade. Keywords
