Abstract
A follow-up study was made of 922 insurance applicants who were given the double standard two-step exercise test between 1949 and March 1958, and were traced to March 1959. The postexercise ecg''s were analyzed using the P-R segment as the point of reference for measuring S-T junction and S-T segment depression. This analysis showed (1) ischemic S-T segment depression after exercise is due usually to coronary atherosclerosis and insufficiency, (2) the type and degree of ischemic S-T segment depression after exercise reflects the severity of the coronary disease, and (3) S-T junction depression is a normal response to exercise.
