Abstract
Describes a method whereby the elastic moduli of materials can be determined up to high temperatures. A short duration pulse of ultrasound is propagated along a cylindrical buffer rod to a measurement region of accurately known dimensions, which extends into the uniformly hot zone of a furnace. From the echoes returned one may determine the compressional as well as shear-wave velocities, and hence the elastic moduli of the material under test. Keywords
