Abstract
In a study of the initiation of walking, the pressure of the feet against the floor was recorded with various types of measuring plates; at the same time the activity in M. sacrospinalis and certain leg muscles was studied electromyographically. Walking was initiated by the body losing its balance as a result of the cessation of activity in. certain postural muscles. The various torques of the body-weight displace the line of gravity, 1st laterally and dorsally, then ventrally, to a position in which the muscles of movement were able to contribute actively to and complete the 1st step. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
